Everson, WA – Day two of the Mt Baker Academics & Athletics weekend at Deming Speedway saw three drivers take home their second wins in their respective divisions, with Jared Peterson, Kyle Mitchell and Hudson Johnson sweeping the weekend in their classes. Jeff Westergard and Colton Knapp won the other features. 

For Peterson, the weekend was nothing but a success in the Speedmart 600 division. After redrawing the pole in the top six redraw, Peterson went on to lead all 30 laps of the feature unchallenged for the win ahead of Dakota Drake and Colin Mackey. Heat winners were Carson Guffie and Dominic Carter. 

Mitchell had his work cut out for him in the Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 class after pulling the six on the redraw. Using slidejob after slidejob, Mitchell picked his way through the field before eclipsing Alex Lewis on lap 20 to take the lead for good and his second main event win of the weekend. Lewis brought it home second and Jared Alseth was third. Dakota Drake and Tyson Cross won the heat races. 

It was the most exciting race of the year at Deming Speedway in the NW Focus Midgets as they ran their Tribute to Leo Voigt. Five drivers battled tooth and nail, running withing inches of each other for nearly the entire 25 lap feature. Jeff Westergard led 24 of the 25 laps, only giving up the lead for one lap when Ryan Orchard got underneath, but Westergard would take the lead right back on lap 22 when Orchard made contact with a slower car, knocking him out of contention. With Nick Evans throwing slider after slider and both Jared Peterson and Alex Peck within a few feet as well, Westergard found the right counter move every time to take the win ahead of Evans and Peterson. Evans was a heat race winner along with Levi Harless. 

It was Colton Knapp’s night to shine in the Doyle Guffie’s Rallye Auto Sales 600 restricted. Chloe Danielson shot out to the early lead, looking for a repeat of the night before but it was Knapp taking the lead from her in turn one on lap six and racing away to the win. The battle behind Knapp was furious, with Clayton Jalakas recovering from a tangle with a lapped car to work back to second place and Jailynn Serrano running third. Wins in the heat races went to Avery Askvig, Sarenna Sweeney, Samantha Fraser and Oliver Baxter. 

Hudson Johnson looked dominant again in the Capstone Plastering Jr Sprints, collecting another feature win after leading every lap of the feature. Aiden Stone and Kayson Sargent traded second place back and forth a few times over the final few laps before Stone took it for good. Heat wins went to Logan Williams and Kellen Vonthenen.
