Opening Night Wins to Holm, Crum, Kuntz and Van Sickle

Everson, WA – Opening day was only 56 days late at Deming Speedway, but thanks to Capstone Plastering and Dirtoval TV, Opening Day 2020 still happened as four drivers won five main events at the first fanless race in track history. With Capstone Plastering sponsoring the purse and live PPV airing the races, opening night was a success with more scheduled for the future. 

In the Speedmart 600 Open division, Kaden Holm scored his first career win by leading all 20 laps of the main. Chance Crum and Kaitlyn Hammer closed and threatened in traffic before Crum dropped out with mechanical problems. A lap 14 restart gave Holm all the distance he needed in front of Hammer and a hard charging Evan Margeson who picked up seven spots in the main. 

While the open 600s didn’t end up well for Crum, his performance in the Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200s and Northwest Focus Midgets more than made for a good night. In the 1200 main, Crum swung up and around the highside of teammate Derek Holmwood as the pair entered slower traffic on lap 13 to score the lead and eventual win. Holmwood would hold second in front of Seth Hespe. Haylee Bloodgood debuted in the 1200 class with a hard charger run, picking up six spots. 

In the Northwest Focus Midget class, a lap six restart gave Crum the opportunity to drive around the outside of early race leader Shane Smith as he rolled to his first main event win of the night / season. Smith held strong and closed slightly late in his second place run, with Nick Evans debuting a new car on his way to a third place run. Jesse Conway was hard charger, gaining four places. 

Caution flags shortened the Mytrafficman.NET 600 Restricted main, but didn’t damper the celebration for birthday boy Levi Kuntz, who celebrated turning age 12 with his first victory in the division. Kuntz won ahead of Jayden Whitney and Levi Hillier. Axle Oudman finished fourth and gained six spots to earn hard charger. 

Kane Van Sickle led the night off with a win in the Clean Crawls Junior Sprints. Van Sickle passed Karma Fagerlie on lap two and dominated the rest of the main ahead of Dustin Ramsey and McKenna Morgan. Sawyer Baxter gained seven places to score hard charger.
