Blue skies returned to Deming Speedway on Friday as racing action was brought to you by Phillips 66 and the IBEW Local 191 Union. Race winners on the night were Kyle Mitchell, JJ Hickle, Colton Heath, Blaine Granberg and Mitchell Helsel.
One of the most improbable finishes ever seen at Deming Speedway happened in the Speedmart Hoosier 600 Open class. Jesse Schlotfeldt had led since lap eight and had a straightaway on Cody Hogarth as the white flag fell. As he crossed the white, Schlotfeldt began slowing, and Hogarth gained enough track position to pull side by side with him entering turn three. The pair made contact, with Hogarth nearly coming to a stop while Jesse tried to limp his car to the finish. Kyle Mitchell took the opportunity to cruise around the outside and passed Schlotfeldt about 25 feet away from the line to take the win. Schlotfeldt sputtered to a stop just before the line, giving second to Kaiden Holm and third to Kaitlyn Hammer. Robbie Price gained ten spots to earn hard charger honors.
In the Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 Main Event, JJ Hickle led a non-stop 25 lap main event the entire duration on his way to his first win at Deming Speedway of 2017. Steven Hendrickson was second with Brock Lemley racing his way to third. Steven Hendrickson was hard charger.
Colton Heath took his second win of the season in Northwest Focus Midget Series. Heath led every lap from the outside pole, surviving four restarts to take the win ahead of Nick Evans and Eric Turner. Dave Mead earned hard charger honors on the night.
The battle was for the bottom of the track in the Mytrafficman.NET 600 Restricted division. Tatum Pospical led the first eleven laps before Blaine Granberg snuck inside her off turn four to take the lead. From there, Granberg ran away and hid to take his third win of the season. Tyson Lemley battled his way to second late with Dakota Drake taking third. Hard charger was Peyton Hagen.
Mitchell Helsel cruised to victory in the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprints. An eight invert put Helsel on the pole, where he led 20 almost caution free laps to grab the victory ahead of Jaden Whitney and Levi Hillier. Hillier was also hard charger.
