Greene, Buckenmeyer, Peterson, Morgan and Johnson Win at Deming Speedway

9/6/24

Everson, WA – On the penultimate night of the year at Deming Speedway, five divisions ran at Deming Speedway looking to pick up crucial points towards next weekend’s season championship event. The NW Focus MIdgets finished their season off, with Jared Peterson taking the feature win and Shane Smith securing the season title. Other feature winners were David Greene, Jacob Buckenmeyer, McKenna Morgan and Hudson Johnson. Racing on the night was sponsored by Hillier Industries and Scrap It Stow It.

In the Speedmart 600 class, Greene had things relatively easy out front until traffic showed up late. Having enjoyed a comfortable lead most of the race, Greene found massive pressure applied by Dakota Drake late in the race before contact with a slower car took Dakota out of the running and gave Greene his second victory of the year. Jake Trueman and Spencer Constance rounded out the podium, while heat wins went to Levi Kuntz, Dominic Carter and Spencer.

Jacob Buckenmeyer now has two wins in a row in the Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 division. Kyle Mitchell looked to have an insurmountable lead until lap 15, when contact with a flipping car caused massive damage to his top wing. Able to continue on but lacking proper down force and side bite, Mitchell held the lead until lap 22 when Buckenmeyer finished cutting through slower traffic to blast Mitchell and into the lead for good. Jacob would roll to victory lane in front of Nate Vaughn and Mitchell, with heat race wins going to Buckenmeyer and Peyton Drake.

Jared Peterson won the battle but Shane Smith won the war at Deming Speedway in the NW Focus Midgets. Peterson entered the night trailing Smith by 20 points and did everything he could to close the gap as he took the lead in the main on lap four and was never challenged en route to win. Smith was tough as well though, racing forward to a 5th place finish in the main event that gave him a 13 point margin of victory for the season title, his second at Deming Speedway after his first came in 2018. Brad Pritchard had a phenomenal night, winning his heat and taking second in the main. Jeff Westergard was third in the feature. Ayuka Carlson won the other heat race.

McKenna Morgan raced to victory lane for the first time on the season with a dominant display in the Doyle Guffie’s Rallye Auto Sales 600 restricted class. Morgan led all 25 laps with a healthy advantage to score the win ahead of Clayton Jalakas and Dustin Ramsey. Heat wins went to Cruz Kentch, Chloe Danielson, Avery Askvig and Ramsey.

The win for the Capstone Plastering JR Sprints was in question all the way up to the checkered flag. Hudson Johnson led the first 18 laps of the 20 lap main with Owen Hill hot on his heals. On lap 19, mired in heavy traffic, Hill found a small gap to the inside of Johnson on turn one to move him to the outer lane and in the process, took the lead. Johnson returned the favor on the next lap, pulling the exact same move on Hill in the bottom of turn one, retaining the top spot and barely beating Owen to the line for another feature win. Hill would settle for second while Madi Hoppe was third. Lennen Peters, Drake Wiersma and Aiden Stone won the heats.
