Two former track champions returned to victory lane at Deming Speedway on Friday night, as Kaitlyn Hammer and Jared Gundersen took wins for the first time in 2021 in the 600 and 1200 classes respectively. Peyton Drake won in the 600 Restricted class while Brooklyn Constance won again in the JR Sprints.
Hammer worked from the outside of row one into the lead on the opening lap, outdueling Ryley Mayer coming out of turn two to secure the top spot. From there, the 2018 Speedmart 600 Open champ was flawless, leading the rest of the way unchallenged for the win. Mayer ran without challenge to secure second while Parker Hadlock came home third. Heat winners were Dakota Drake, Levi Kuntz and Spencer Constance.
Similar to Hammer, Gundersen would go wire to wire for his first win of 2021 in the Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 class. Gundersen’s main was not as smooth sailing, as on lap 19 a slower car spun in front of Jared, resulting in a collision between the two. Gundersen came though the accident with no damage however, and the three-time former champ would hold strong to collect the win six laps later, with Dakota Drake and Derek Holmwood rounding out the podium. Seth Hespe and Drake won the heats.
Nick Evans made a sweep of the NW Focus Midget Series night at Deming Speedway. Now a 13 time winner on the season with the series, Evans moved from high to low, weaving through the field to take the lead on lap 11 of the main event en route to victory lane. Jake Munn was second with Chris Foster third. Evans also won the heat race, set quick time and was the hard charger in the main.
Peyton Drake went wire to wire for the win in the Mytrafficman.Net 600 Restricted class. Drake led the whole way with Cejay Adkins in the second for the duration and Destry Miller taking the third spot. The three heat races were won by Axel Oudman, Diane Knutzen and Mallory Fisher.
Brooklyn Constance stormed up the field for a pass on the last lap to take the win in the Clean Crawls JR Sprints. Starting sixth, Constance worked her way into second with just a few short laps left. Leader Clayton Jalakas left the low groove open in turn one on the final lap and Constance was in the right place, driving under and past Clayton for the lead and win just a few short corners later. Jalakas and McKenna Morgan were the podium finishers. Morgan won the first heat race while Jayce Medcalf won heat two.
