Johnson Wins Fantastic 600 Duel at Deming Speedway

Everson, WA – An epic duel at the front of the field saw Kyle Johnson roll to his second win of the season at Deming Speedway on the first of two Mt Baker Academics and Athletics nights at the track. The top four finishers in each main event locked into a top eight redraw for the Saturday night finale. 

The Speedmart 600 Open division watched two veterans engage in an epic duel for the win.. Kyle Johnson and Jared Peterson ran nearly nose to tail every lap of the race. Johnson would lead the first thirteen laps before getting caught in the slicked over middle of the track and losing the top spot to Peterson on lap 14. Johnson rallied back to the inside of Peterson into turn two and reclaimed the top spot coming to the line on lap 15. From there, Peterson tried high, low and middle to make his way back by Johnson but Kyle countered each move with a line change of his own to drive to his second win of the season. Peterson was second, with Chance Crum third and Cody Hogarth claiming the final lock in spots. Johnson, Hogarth, Jeremy Holz and Reese Wickard won the heat races. 

In his first race after his Clay Cup win, Steven Hendrickson returned to victory lane in the Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 class. Hendrickson led all 25 laps without serious challenge in taking the win. Jared Gundersen, Chance Crum and Holmwood took the final three lock in spots. Heat wins went to Cal Herdson, Nate Vaughn and Terry Lewis. 

Levi Klatt came out on top of a stout battle for the win in the Mytrafficman.NET 600 Restricted class. Blaine Granberg led the first 11 laps before Klatt got by him for the lead. The pair stayed close as they raced into traffic until Granberg caught contact with a slower car and flipped with just a few laps to go. With open track ahead of him on the restart, Klatt would drive on to the win, with Lane Taylor, Malachi Gemmer and Jayden Whitney finishing one through four. The heat winners were Brody Ferguson, Taylor, Jesson Jacobson and Gemmer. 

Levi Kuntz ran to his fourth win of the year in the Clean Crawls Junior Sprints. Kuntz snuck underneath McKenna Morgan on lap nine and went on the score the win. Levi Hillier, Kane Van Sickle and Morgan picked up the lock in spots for tomorrow night’s feature. Heat wins went to Kuntz and Drake Hadlock.
