Drake Dominates 1200 Division 7/23/10 Eric Drake put on an absolute clinic in the 1200 Division at Deming Speedway on Triple X Race Co night. Other winners included Jake Benson, Liam Ryan and Reece Wickard. Like a skilled surgeon, Eric Drake sliced and cut with pinpoint precision en route to his third victory of the year in the Advanced Toys for Trucks 1200 division. After taking the lead from Frosty Metcalf on lap 2, Drake led the remaining laps of the race to take the victory, followed by Tom Waggoner and Aaron Fell. Waggoner gave Drake a small challenge on a late race restart, but Drake knew exactly where to put his car for maximum speed and held off the challenge to take the W. Heat wins belonged to Brad Davison, Clennon Holloway and Jason Bloodgood. Eric Turner set quick time. Jake Benson finally overcame his mechanical gremlins to win the main event in the Speedmart PMP 600s. Benson led every lap of the main event after setting quick time. JR Thomas raced his way to finish second, closing on Benson in the late laps but unable to get close enough to make his move. Dustin O’Brien was third. Heat wins went to Hayden Schmidt, Shaun Holtorf, Liam Ryan and Kyle Oman. What more can be said about Liam Ryan in the Triple X Race Co 600 restricted division? Ryan won his unprecedented 8th main event of his rookie year, making him 8 for 11 in feature wins in his debut season at Deming Speedway. Robie Price was second and Dougie James was third. Heat wins went to Jacob Brown, Tanner Reid and Nate Vaughn. Price set quick time. Reece Wickard returned to Deming Speedway in the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprints with a victory. Substituting for an injured Spencer Constance, Wickard took an early lead and was never seriously challenged as he visited victory lane for the first time in 2010. Lynden Lebedinski took a career best second with teammate Kyle Mitchell third. Tristin Thomas was quick time. Heat winners were Wickard and Mitchell.
Lemley & Goetz Triumphant at Clay Cup 7/17/10 Brock Lemley and Reece Goetz are the 2010 Deming Speedway Clay Cup Champions. In the Advanced Toys for Trucks 1200 division, Lemley and Eric Drake had an absolutely incredible back and forth drive over the final eight laps of the A Feature. Lemley assumed control of the race early, using the high groove to pilot his Little Caesar’s sponsored #10 around the high side of the track. Drake ran him down as Brock entered traffic and briefly took the lead from him from lap 16-19. Lemley got it back on lap 20 with Drake, Tom Waggoner and Aaron Fell in tow. Lemley continued to hold point until a lap 32 restart bunched the field. On the restart, Drake found moisture on the bottom of the racetrack and made his move, beating Brock to the line as they took the white flag. Lemley, a native of nearby Bellingham, WA, was not shaken though, as he powered his car off the high groove and used a slower car as a basketball style pick to keep Drake at bay en route to winning his fourth Clay Cup title and second in a row. The win paid Lemley a cool $5,000. Drake finished second and Aaron Fell was third. Tom Waggoner won the match race. Erik Ryason won the B Feature.
Where the 1200 main was a slobber-knocker of a race, the Speedmart PMP 600 race was very one sided. 15 year old Reece Goetz of Snohomish, WA led all 40 laps of the main event, picking up the biggest win and payday of his young career. Goetz pocketed $7,500 for his efforts. After winning the match race, Goetz shot out to an early lead and was never seriously challenged as he held an almost full straightaway lead for the duration of the main event. Dustin O’Brien enjoyed his career best Clay Cup finish with a second place performance, and young Chase Schmidt took a career best third place finish to round out the podium. Travis Senter, who won the long haul award after flying in from Osceola AR, was the B Feature winner. Cody Broulett won the C Main. Deming Speedway wishes to thank all the fans who came out to support the 27th annual Clay Cup Nationals.
Clay Cup Nationals Friday Night July 16, 2010 Night two of Deming Speedways 27th annual Clay Cup Nationals is in the books and two new winners graced victory lane. In the Advanced Toys for Trucks 1200, Eric Turner of Everett, WA came out on top. In the Speedmart PMP 600s, Landon Hurst of Laton, CA was victorious. Clennon Holloway was looking to make it back to back Clay Cup preliminary night wins in the 1200 division until disaster struck. After being the beneficiary of some good luck last night, bad luck evened the playing field. While leading the race, Holloway got caught up in a wreck with is brother Brent while trying to lap him, sending him to the back of the pack on lap 23. That handed the lead to Eric Turner, who held on take the win. The top points scorers in the 1200 division were Tom Waggoner and Brock Lemley who tied for the top spot at 711 points. Rece Goetz and Phil Schemenaeur were top points earners in the 600s. A full lineup run down is available online at www.demingspeedway.com.
Clay Cup Nationals Thursday Night July 15, 2010 Night one of Deming Speedway’s Clay Cup Nationals is in the books with Clennon Holloway and Austin Stone standing victorious after the first night of action. In the Advanced Toys for Trucks 1200 division, Clennon Holloway won his first main of the year thanks to a little luck on the last lap. After leading the first 24 laps, Holloway gave up the lead to Jason Bloodgood who had made a strong move on the outside of turn two to take the lead. Bloodgood looked to have the win sewed up when he collided with lapped traffic on the final turn of the final lap, spinning out and handing the victory to Holloway. Thursday night was a learning experience for Visalia, California’s Austin Stone in the Speedmart PMP division. On his first trip to Deming Speedway, Stone took the lead from fellow Californian Dylan Black on the 21st lap after moving his car all around the 1/6 clay mile oval looking for the optimal groove. Once he found it, it was off to the races for the youngster as he claimed his first Deming Speedway win. Full results and points standings are available at www.demingspeedway.com .
